Job Of A Lifetime!

May 7, 2009

Congratulations to 2 of my friends who have recently changed jobs! Be prepared to feel a variety of emotions your first day, ranging from anxiety to excitement.

I’ll never forget my first day on a job I started several years ago. Not only was I anxious and excited but also exhausted from my lack of sleep the night before. Fortunately I didn’t start my job until late afternoon. Before I knew it, late afternoon became late evening and I realized that my job was far from finished. What started off as a slow afternoon soon kicked into high gear. It was tough as hell but at the end of the evening my hard work paid off with a lovely reward and I held my newborn baby boy for the first time.

From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I nurtured him. I read books, attended classes and did everything I could to prepare myself for his arrival. When my son was born I immediately understood that he was completely dependent on me. That was the day my life changed forever. It was the first day of the most important job of my life: I was a mother. 14 years have passed since then and with Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday I couldn’t help but reflect on how quickly time flies.

In my Piece, Spring Twist I talked about the importance of my mom and my grandmother. In case you missed it you can check it out here. I decided to put a twist on my mom’s Mother’s Day gift this year. I asked the immensely talented Gabrielle Lasporte of Gxcentrik Design to create a batik painting of my grandmother replicating her wedding day photo. I cried when I saw Gabrielle’s creation for the first time and can’t wait for my mother’s reaction. She’s going to absolutely love it! You can see the batik painting at the end of this Piece.

Whether or not you observe Mother’s Day, be sure to cherish the mothers in your life because none of us would be here without them.

Happy Mother’s Day!
